Our Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan
At Our Place, we believe every child and their family should have the opportunity to succeed. Achieving that vision requires us to create environments where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, families and communities feel respected, welcomed and culturally safe.
Today, we are pleased to share Our Place’s Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) 2026–2028.
Our RAP outlines the practical actions we will take over the next two years to strengthen relationships, deepen respect, create opportunities and embed accountability across our organisation. It builds on the foundations established through our Reflect RAP 2022–2023 and reflects our commitment to learning, listening and taking meaningful action.
As a place-based organisation working alongside children, families, schools, early learning services and community partners, reconciliation is not separate from our work. It shapes how we build relationships, how we create culturally safe environments, and how we support communities to thrive.
The artwork featured throughout our RAP is the Eel Basket sculpture at Korayn Birralee Family Centre on Wadawurrung Country, home to Our Place Northern Bay. Inspired by traditional eel baskets used across Wadawurrung Country, the sculpture reflects a sustainable fishing practice that has been used for thousands of years. Designed with a narrowing form that prevents eels from turning back, these traps demonstrate a deep understanding of the natural environment and a respectful relationship with Country.
The sculpture was commissioned by the City of Greater Geelong, with cultural guidance from Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation (WTOAC) consultant Melinda Kennedy, and designed and constructed by Ochre Landscape. For us, it serves as a powerful reminder that culture, history and connection to Country are living and enduring.

Reconciliation is an ongoing journey. This RAP represents our commitment to continue learning, strengthening relationships, and working alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in ways that support self-determination, cultural safety and better outcomes for children and families.
