Our Place supports First Nations Voice to Parliament

Our Place proudly supports the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice to Parliament being enshrined in the Australian Constitution. We believe that the Voice will underpin stronger communities and a stronger nation and will be one of many important steps towards a better future.

This position aligns with the Our Place vision that all children and their families succeed in life. We are passionate about challenging the structural causes of disadvantage and our guiding principles affirm that relationships, trust and listening to the voices of community are key to enabling inter-generational change. Our organisational values call on us to show leadership through being courageous, inclusive and empowering.

We have arrived at this position through deep discussions across our team. These conversations have surfaced diverse views and energised us to reflect on how our daily work can continue to support better outcomes, including through our Reconciliation Action Plan. We recognise that there are also diverse perspectives within our communities and that ongoing conversations, leadership and commitment will be required on the long journey we have together as a nation.

The Uluru Statement from the Heart is a beacon of truth-telling that calls on all Australians to listen – and to translate our good intentions into action through voice, treaty and truth. Our Place accepts the generous invitation of the Uluru Statement and commits to walking together to a better Australia. It is a small ask for a significant and necessary change.

“When we have power over our destiny our children will flourish. They will walk in two worlds and their culture will be a gift to their country.”
