Our Place Carlton – will open in January 2019 (through partnership between City of Melbourne, Colman Foundation and the Primary School), on the Carlton Primary School site, at the corner of Palmerston and Drummond Streets in Carlton. The site is on the South East corner of the Carlton housing commission estate, and the children and families of the school are predominantly from the estate.
The site is under development and will have refurbished school facilities, an integrated early learning service, a shared / common entry to the site, community multi–purpose spaces, consulting rooms, and maternal child health service rooms. The City of Melbourne has made significant investment at the site and is committed to supporting the local community through partnering at the site to create a community hub that will provide high quality and integrated services for the children and families of Carlton.
The families who attend Carlton PS, are almost exclusively recent immigrants and refugees, from a range of cultural backgrounds and experience, with more than 60 languages (other than English) spoken in their homes.
The Carlton site sits within the broader Carlton Education Precinct and is fortunate to have access to the resources of University of Melbourne and other education providers within the local area.
Our Place has a Lead Facilitator working at the site, working with the partners, connecting with the many local service providers and getting to know the local community. The partnership group are working with the community to understand what is needed at the site to support the children and families to succeed.
