The close knit, multi-cultural community of Robinvale is located 90km from Mildura and 140km from Swan Hill, its local government hub. Robinvale has a number of recognised challenges, including geographic isolation, major housing shortages, limited local facilities, reduced access to locally delivered services due to transport issues, a transitory population, low levels of education and historically low levels of engagement with education and early childhood services.
Positive collaboration and advocacy from key local organisations led to a partnership between the Colman Foundation, Robinvale College, Swan Hill Shire Council, the Robinvale District Health Service, Regional Development Victoria and Murray Valley Aboriginal Cooperative to establish and support an Our Place site at Robinvale College.
The redevelopment of the huge Robinvale College site is well progressed, with a new building that includes early childhood facilities and some community space due to open for Term 3, 2018. Funding has been secured for the construction of a community library facility on the site that will become an important resource for community activities.
Our Place has a part time Community Engagement Coordinator working at the site, who works with the community and the partners to develop a plan for the implementation of the Our Place model at Robinvale.
